About the Role

This position is in the Underwriting Reporting & Analysis team of the Underwriting Analysis Department, which reports to the Group Chief Underwriting Officer. Our mandate is to be the business partners for all Non-Life Underwriting Business Units, providing them with regular and ad-hoc analytical and reporting support. This position is based in our Stamford office.


Business Unit Analysts are assigned to specific BU(s) and support each other to provide worldwide service from centralized locations.  Responsibilities include:

  • Act as Business Partners to the Non-Life Underwriting organization and Leadership team

  • Provide quantitative (and qualitative) analysis of a contract, a client or broker, or a portfolio of risks

  • Review and monitor quality of data in Underwriting systems as needed (e.g., premium estimates)

  • Manage quarterly reporting and closing activities, including Operations Review presentations, business renewal reports, etc.

  • Work with FP&A and other departments inqiuires, issues and tasks involving the Business Units (e.g., financial results analysis; technical accounting booking questions)

  • Support underwriting planning activities, including revising underwriting year outlooks throughout the year

  • Coordinate with Underwriting Operations Analysts (responsible for contract administration in our systems) as necessary

  • Ensure BU’s reporting requirements are met by working with the Management Information team; become proficient with the Group Reporting tools (Business Objects, SICS, etc.)

  • Interface with Retrocession Department, as necessary

Requirements

  • At least 3-5 years of relevant experience in reinsurance, preferably in accounting, finance or underwriting support

  • Experience in underwriting and/or more in-depth knowledge of specific markets a plus

  • Knowledge of the reinsurance marketplace, ceding company and broker operations, and reinsurance underwriting functions.  Familiarity with GAAP and Statutory Financial Statements a plus

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office tools, especially MS Excel and PowerPoint; knowledge of Business Objects is a plus

  • BA/BS or equivalent education or experience in a business discipline.  MBA and/or insurance industry designations (e.g., ARE, ARM, CPCU, etc.) a plus

  • Fluency in English required (standard working language)

  • Internal client relationship and service delivery focus

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills

  • Ability to work effectively with various departments, management, and levels throughout the organization. Excellent collaboration skills

  • Good oral and written communication skills required; attention to detail a must
